How long until I can walk on new sod?

Stay off it for the first two weeks except to move sprinklers. Light foot traffic is fine at about three weeks, once the sod knits down and resists lifting at a corner. Hold off on heavy use, kids, dogs, furniture, for a full month.

How much do I water new sod?

Deeply, twice a day, for the first ten to fourteen days, the goal is soil that stays damp two inches down, not a surface that looks wet. Then taper to every other day, then to a normal deep-and-infrequent schedule by week four.

Can you install sod in the summer?

Yes, but July and August installs need serious watering commitment and cost more to establish because of the heat. If the timing is flexible, spring and early fall installs take with far less effort and less water.
