Ice Management
Deicing and anti-icing for walks, steps and lots, the slip-and-fall problem, handled.
ALT Landscaping provides ice management for Milwaukee-area homes and small commercial properties: pre-treatment before a storm, deicing after, and refreeze monitoring through the thaw cycle. Standard rock salt stops working near 15°F, so colder events are treated with calcium or magnesium chloride blends. Custom programs available, (414) 975-6841.
Snow is visible. Ice is not, and it is what actually puts people on the ground. On a commercial property it is also the liability nobody wants. Managing it means treating before the storm as well as after it.
What’s included
- Pre-treatment (anti-icing)Applied before a storm so snow and ice never bond to the pavement. Far more effective, and uses less material, than chipping at a bonded layer afterward.
- Post-storm deicingWalks, stairs, stoops, drives and lots treated once cleared.
- Cold-temperature blendsRock salt loses effectiveness below roughly 15°F. Calcium and magnesium chloride blends keep working into a Wisconsin cold snap.
- Refreeze monitoringThe thaw-refreeze cycle after a sunny February afternoon is when most falls happen. Return visits are part of the plan.
- Custom commercial programsBuilt around your hours, your entrances and your liability exposure.
Ice Management questions, answered
What temperature does salt stop working?
Standard sodium chloride rock salt becomes unreliable below about 15°F and effectively stops working near 5°F. Wisconsin routinely runs colder than that in January and February, which is why ALT Landscaping switches to calcium chloride or magnesium chloride blends for deep-cold events.
Will deicer damage my concrete or plants?
Overapplied salt does. It spalls concrete and burns turf and shrubs along the edge of walks and drives. Applying at the correct rate, and using lower-impact blends near planting beds, avoids most of it. Salt-damaged turf gets repaired in the spring cleanup.
Can I get ice service without plowing?
Yes. Some customers clear their own snow but want walks and steps treated, especially rental and commercial properties where a fall is a real liability. Ice management can be booked on its own.
