Landscape Design & Planting

Turning a blank or tired yard into something that fits the house, the budget and the climate.

The short answer

ALT Landscaping provides residential landscape design and planting throughout Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin, foundation plantings, privacy screens, garden beds and full front-yard redesigns. Designs are built around Zone 5b hardiness, your site's actual sun and drainage, and a budget agreed before work starts. Free on-site consultation.

Most Milwaukee front yards were planted once, by a builder, thirty years ago, with whatever was on the truck. Redesigning one is not complicated. It just needs somebody to look at the light, the drainage and the house, and choose plants that will still be the right size in ten years.

What’s included

  • On-site consultationAdolfo walks the property with you, listens to what you want, and tells you honestly what will and will not work there.
  • Foundation plantingsReplacing overgrown yews and junipers with plants that stay the size you planted them.
  • Privacy screeningArborvitae and mixed-evergreen screens along property lines and patios.
  • Full bed redesignRemoval of the old, regrading, soil work, new plant layout and mulch.
  • Low-maintenance planningRight plant, right place. The most sustainable design is the one that does not need to be rescued every June.

Landscape Design & Planting questions, answered

How much does landscape design cost in Milwaukee?

Small foundation refreshes typically start in the low four figures installed; full front-yard redesigns run considerably higher depending on plant sizes and how much removal and grading is involved. ALT Landscaping quotes the whole job in writing after a free on-site walkthrough, so there is no design fee to find out.

When is the best time to plant in Wisconsin?

Spring, from late April once the ground thaws, and early fall from late August through early October. Fall planting is often better for trees and shrubs, warm soil, cool air and autumn rain let roots establish without heat stress. Mid-summer planting works but demands consistent watering.

Do you handle plant removal too?

Yes. Overgrown shrubs, dead evergreens, stumps from small trees and old bed material are removed and hauled away as part of the job. Most redesigns start with taking out more than they put in.
